Youth Dance Classes Classes (Ages 7-10)

ELEMENTARY 1 & 2
(grades 2-5 ; youngest dancer accepted must turn 7 by 9/1/23)

Includes tap, ballet, and jazz. Students learn elementary dance steps and positions, dance terminology, and musical phrasing.
Elementary 1 (gr 2-5)

HIP HOP

It’s time to get funky! Come explore the electrifying world of hip hop. This energetic and powerful style of dance has exploded in popularity over the last decade or so. Dancers will learn isolations and different styles of “street dance” to emulate popular music videos and artists. Great for developing coordination & precision.

Our hip hop dance classes are designed to combine a variety of hip hop styles and choreography set to age-appropriate music. Classes are leveled based on bother student ability and age range.

Level 1 (grades 1-4) Monday 5:45-6:45
Beginner level. Student will learn hip hop fundamentals with an emphasis on rhythm, proper form and solid skill basics.
Level 1.5 (grades 3-6) Thursday 4:45-5:45
Advanced Beginner. Student should have 1-3 years of experience. Class content will build on prior level with concentration on memorization, flexibility and strength.


DANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATRE JR (grades 5-8)

Do you love musicals? Then this is class for you! Perfect for performers trying to boost their dance ability for school or community theatre shows & auditions OR who want extra dance training and just happen to love show tunes. Class will include jazz & tap and is designated to help performers gain skills and gain confidence in musical theatre dance. Several combinations will be taught throughout the year, focusing on character and interpretation of some of your favorite musicals from the stage and screen.

CONTEMPORARY (accelerated)

For the motivated dancer training at the accelerated level – a blend of ballet and lyrical/contemporary dance techniques. Dancers often perform to lyrics which serve as inspiration for the dancer’s movements and expression. Minimum age: second grade. Must take in conjunction with a ballet class.

KIDS ON THE MOVE Lyrical – Monday 4:45-5:45


JAZZ/TAP (accelerated)

A jazz/tap combo class for the motivated dance training at the accelerated level. Purpose is to prepare young dancers who exhibit interest in competitive teams and/or advanced level work through a guided curriculum. Enrollment in a minimum of Jr Ballet and one other class is required.

KIDS ON THE MOVE Jazz/Tap – Friday 5:30-6:30


JR BALLET 1A (accelerated)

(2nd-5th grade) This class is part of the Accelerated Program for the focused dancer with prior experience. Class is best suited for the serious student taking more than one class a week. Content includes: ballet vocabulary spelling and workbook. Instruction will assist young dancers in developing correct body placement, posture, and basic foundational technique. Dancers will learn how to work at the ballet barre, center floor exercises, and ballet combinations. Director approval required for acceptance.

Pre-teen Dance Classes (Ages 9-12)

PRE TEEN JAZZ (grades 4-7)

An upbeat hour of jazz fun! Instruction will emphasize proper technique and body alignment, as well as develop all basic jazz dance related skills in a positive and encouraging atmosphere.

Students should have a minimum of 2 years experience (low intermediate level). Choreography will be designed to improve proper technique, timing and introduce stunts.
Level 2.5 (grades 7+) Tuesday 5:45-6:45
Students should have a minimum of 3 years experience (intermediate level). Concentration on learning through movement, improvisation, and intermediate stunts.


ACRO/GYM (Gymnastics for Dancers)

(placement by instructor) Class will improve strength, flexibility and stamina, resulting in a more powerful and enhanced dance performance.

OUR TEEN LEVEL 1 CLASSES ARE ALSO APPROPRIATE FOR SOME PRE-TEENS.
Teen level 1 classes are appropriate for beginner to advanced beginner dancers, as well as students moving up from the Pre Teen level.

JAZZ Fast paced and high energy; class progresses through warm­ up, floor crossings, and mini-combinations.
Jazz 1 Thursday 5:45-6:45

TAP Covers time steps, progressive foot work, varied rhythms, and innovative routines. A mix of classical and rhythm tap.
Tap 1 Wednesday 5:45-6:45

BALLET Class will stress proper technique, alignment, and terminology using a combination of barre, center and across the floor work.
Ballet 1 Monday 6:45-7:45

CONTEMPORARY Class will include lyrical contemporary dance techniques while performing to music that inspires movement and expression.
Lyrical 1 Monday 5:45-6:45
