2017-2018 POLICIES

SCHOOL SEMESTER – Saturday, September 2, 2017 – Friday, June 8, 2018. There are 36 weeks of classes, less scheduled holidays.

HOLIDAY CALENDAR – No classes on the following dates: September 4, November 21-25, December 19-January 1, March 27-31, and May 28. Our dance holidays do not always follow public school closings.

TUITION PAYMENTS – First payment confirms your class selection. No statements are mailed. Tuition and registration fees are non-refundable.

Tuition is collected in 9 equal payments on the 20th of the month, beginning August 20, 2017. Because of holidays, some months will have less classes than others (ex: in September there are 3 Monday classes but in October there are 5). The calendar year balances out for a total of 36 classes.
Payment #1 August 20th / Prior to first class to confirm your registration.
Payment #2 September 20th
Payment #3 October 20th
Payment #4 November 20th
Payment #5 December 20th
Payment #6 January 20th
Payment #7 February 20th
Payment #8 March 20th
Payment #9 April 20th

If tuition is paid in full with check or cash by September 1st, there will be a 5% discount on the total fees. This is non-refundable.

The more classes you take, the higher the discount. Discounts are calculated by the number of class hours per week.

Multiple Class Discount
2 hours (at $18.75 per hour rate)               $150.00
3 hours (at $17.75 per hour rate)               $213.00
4 hours (at $16.75 per hour rate)               $268.00
5 hours (at $15.75 per hour rate)               $315.00
6 hours (at $14.75 per hour rate)               $354.00
7 hours (at $13.75 per hour rate)               $385.00
8 hours (at $12.75 per hour rate)               $408.00
Unlimited Classes                                          $450.00
9 to 12 hours (at $12.00 per hour rate)

How to calculate your discounted tuition

Calculate your number of class hours by the per hour rate. Then multiply that times 4 to get your monthly payment amount. For example:
3.25 hours of classes x $17.75 per hr rate = $57.69
$57.69 x 4 = $230.76 monthly payment

There is a 10% discount offered to the 2nd and 3rd family members enrolled.
(this applies to student rates only)

A $20 late fee will automatically be applied at midnight on the last day of the month (ex: Tuition due on October 20th ; late fee add on October 31st at midnight) – no exceptions will be made. Dancers with accounts that are more than 30 days past due will not be permitted to take class until the account is up to date. We greatly appreciate customers setting up payments before absences, vacations or studio closures to avoid paying late fees.

RETURNED CHECK POLICY – There is a $25 handling fee.

REFUND POLICY – A doctor’s note is required within 48 hours of diagnosis in order to receive tuition refunds due to medical conditions or ailments. Refund will be tabulated from the date we receive written notification and documentation, less a $25 processing fee.

SCHEDULE CHANGES – Unless made at Director’s request, any class dropped or transferred is subject to a $20 processing fee.

STUDIO SHOWCASES – Showcases are part of our Studio Performance series unique to Dance Unlimited, designed to give students performing opportunities that we feel are as vital to the development of technique as is regular, concentrated class work. Participation is optional and no additional costume is required.

All classes from KDance through Teen classes are scheduled to perform in one of our monthly Showcases held in our black box theatre complete with tiered seating for 115, state of the art lighting, and the magic of live theater. The programs vary but typically include selected pieces from regular studio classes, our Competition Dance Team and voice students.
We also offer the opportunity for dancers to sign up to do a solo or duet in one of the Showcases. Please call the office for more details and prices.

CHECK YOUR EMAIL – Add to your contact list! Special notices and newsletters are sent by email throughout the year. Parents should check their email, our bulletin board, or touch base with the office periodically regarding any current announcements. We send lots of information and post countless reminders in the lobby — PLEASE DROP IN! If you can’t get in — CALL and ask the office staff for an update. For those who do not have email, there will be a binder containing all email notices and class handouts at the studio for you to reference.

CLASS OBSERVATION – Parent Observation days for the 2017-2018 year will be November 6-11, 2017 and February 5-10, 2018. This is an ideal opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with the instructor. Observing the class at other times is not allowed.

TEACHER CONFERENCES – If you wish to speak to a teacher for any reason please arrange an appointment by leaving a message with the office staff. Due to scheduling, teachers usually will not have the opportunity between classes. We encourage parent/teacher conferences to discuss your child’s progress or placement.

LEAVING THE BUILDING – Minors (under the age of 18) may not leave the building to go to 7-11, etc., unless there is a written permission slip on file from parents or guardian. An update is required each year.

CANCELLATION POLICY – Any class not consistently held with 8 or more students may be cancelled at any time during the year

REGISTRATION FEE – A $25 registration fee is required of all new dance & acting students. This is a one-time fee as long as the student remains continuously enrolled during the September through June nine-month session. Returning 2016/2017 students who have not enrolled within 30 days of our class start date are subject to a new student registration fee.

CLASS PLACEMENT – All classes are observed for the first several weeks to confirm that students have been placed in the proper level of class. Class size will continue to vary for the first month until preliminary student evaluations have been completed. Instructors will advise students/parents if a student should be moved to a different level. Throughout the year, students moving at a faster pace will be encouraged to move to the next level. Levels are not equivalent to school grades – i.e., one can expect to remain in a level for at least two years or more before advancing to the next level.

SNOW OR BAD WEATHER – The studio will not necessarily close for snow days, even if area schools are closed, since many times roads are clear and safe by 4:00pm. If in doubt, check our website, Facebook or contact the studio for cancellation recording. The exception to the rule is morning classes (before 12:00pm). These classes will not be held if school is cancelled or if it is a late start day.
If you miss a dance class because the studio is closed for snow, you may make that class up by attending any other scheduled class within the next five weeks. Make-up Classes for Snow Day Cancellations are not required for perfect attendance. See Make-up Classes Policy. Cancellation policy for Acting Classes per instructor.

MAKE-UP CLASSES – If you miss a class due to illness or for any reason, you may make up that class by attending any other scheduled class within the next five weeks. Make-up classes are a courtesy offered by the studio and do not count toward perfect attendance. This is a good opportunity to try a new dance form or a higher level class. Make-up policy does not apply for the Acting Program, voice lessons and limited run classes. Students must check-in at the front office for make-up class voucher to present to instructor. Student will need to supply office staff with the date, name, and time of class they missed.

ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS – Attendance is taken at each class and recognition is given at the recital for perfect attendance all 36 weeks. Students who are tardy for class (more than 10 minutes) or leave early for any reason are not eligible for perfect attendance recognition. Students are expected to be prompt and attend all classes. Good attendance is imperative as absences and tardiness can hold back an entire class, and the studio cannot jeopardize its responsibility to the rest of the class for one student.

EARLY WITHDRAWAL/LEAVE OF ABSENCE – Tuition is non-refundable. If it is necessary for you to withdraw for any reason, you are obligated for the current “payment period”. Please notify the office of your withdrawal. Should you wish to return in the future (whether it is a two month absence or a return the following year) a registration fee will apply. If you have already ordered a recital costume at the time of your withdrawal, you will remain responsible for the costume balance. Costumes orders are non-returnable.

ACCEPTANCE – Students are accepted with the understanding that they have enough self control to work as part of a group and will adhere to studio policies. Students are evaluated for proper class assignment by instructors/studio director. Admission into the Accelerated Program classes is by in-class audition only.

CLASS PROCEDURES – Classes begin and end promptly as scheduled. Dancers should be dressed and ready for class on time. Students are not eligible for perfect attendance if they are tardy (more than 10 minutes late) for class. Students are encouraged to arrive early for class, so they have an opportunity to chat with friends before class begins. This is also a good time to warm up and focus. No gum, food, or beverages are permitted in the dance studios or dressing rooms.
Disruptive students will be asked to “take a time out” in the waiting room or studio area. This decision is made only by the class instructor. It is our goal to offer students quality class instruction time and to take all possible steps to maintain order, while providing a positive learning experience. Discipline problems will be discussed with student/parents and appropriate steps taken to benefit the class.

AUDIT CLASSES – Students may audit classes above their level with the understanding that we cannot slow down class work. This is a viable option for students with transportation problems or for those taking multiple classes in preparation for more advanced work. Audit space is limited and subject to cancellation at any time to accommodate on-level students who are added to the class during the year. Audit students cannot participate in the class recital piece unless student progress warrants (decision per instructor).

DROPPING OFF AND PICKING UP STUDENTS – Students must enter and leave by the front door only. The studio is open 15 minutes before the start of the first class of the afternoon. Please do not drop off children earlier than our scheduled opening time just because you see an open door. This is a performing arts facility, there are many other classes and activities going on here all the time. Parents should plan to pick up students at the scheduled end of class. The staff cannot be responsible for children who are left at the studio after completion of their class.
For your child’s safety, students are not permitted to wait outside for their ride and can be found in the lobby, office or classroom per individual instructor.

SUPERVISION FEE – There will be a “Supervision Fee” of $10 per fifteen minute increment (or any portion thereof) charged if students are left at the studio. Should you foresee an unavoidable problem or delay, please alert the staff so they might inform your child of the delay to avert alarm and worry.

RECITAL – Our end of the year program is at the Weinberg Center for the Arts located on West Patrick St. Performance dates are Sunday, June 10, 2018 and Monday, June 11, 2018. Your child may perform either or both of these days. Dress rehearsal is Saturday, June 9, 2018. Attendance at dress rehearsal is mandatory, no exceptions.
Participation in any recital piece is optional. Those students choosing to participate in a recital piece must be enrolled in the class by December 1, 2017 (costume ordering time). Regular attendance is a requirement for recital participation. Students with early vacation plans or other commitments are welcome to continue attending class and benefit from class work, even if they are not able to participate in the performance.
