Class Descriptions
EARLY YEARS (Ages 2-7)
TINY TOTS - for the tiny dancer. This 30-minute class will include creative movement and basic ballet. Average age 3. Youngest dancer accepted must turn 2 1/2 by 9/01/11.
PRE-KINDER - class will include tap, ballet, and creative movement. This is a 45 minute class designed for pre-schoolers age range 4-5 (youngest dancer accepted must turn 4 by 9/1/11).
K-DANZ - students are introduced to beginning ballet and tap steps. Classwork is structured to develop basic rhythm skills, creativity, and coordination. Average age 5. (K-Danz cut off is 5 years on or before 9/1/11).
PRIMARY - tap, ballet, and basic jazz for 5 1/2 - 6 year olds. Class is structured to match both the motor skill development and social skills of students entering first grade. Also appropriate for some 2nd graders.
MINI-HOP - (1st - 4th grade) age appropriate street jam for the younger set
YOUTH CLASSES (Ages 7-10)
ACRO DANCE - (grades K - 4th) beginner/intermediate tumbling skills incorporated into dance combinations
ELEMENTARY I & 2 - includes tap, ballet, and jazz. Students learn elementary dance steps and positions, dance terminology, and musical phrasing. General age range 7-10. (Minimum age requirement is 7 years and must be entering the second grade at least.) Level 1 is appropriate for first and second year Elementary students and Level 2 is best suited for intermediate.
YOUTH HIP HOP - street style jazz for the young dancer fifth through seventh grade.
YOUTH LYRICAL/MODERN - a blend of ballet and jazz in an artful interpretive style. Level 1A requires no prior experience. For the expressive young dancer. Minimum age second grade.
JR BALLET IA - class is geared to the motivated young dancer who is ready for more than one class per week. Class content will include ballet vocabulary, how to work at the ballet barre, and center floor exercises. General age range is 6 - 11
PRE TEEN CLASSES (Ages 9-12)
PRE-TEEN TAP/JAZZ I & 2 - includes tap and jazz. Instruction will emphasize proper technique and body alignment, as well as develop all dance-related skills. General age range grades 5, 6, and 7.
PRE-TEEN JAZZ (formally Youth Jazz) - for the young jazz dance enthusiast - 4th grade to 6th grade.
YOUTH HIP HOP - street style jazz for the young dancer fifth through seventh grade.
PERFORMANCE GROUPS
Danztastix is our studio jazz dance team open to all middle and high school students. Team performs at studio showcase cabarets, community events, regional competitions, and our annual Recital.
Danztastix Jrz - A younger version of Danztastix. Grades 4-7
Mini Company is our young dancer performance group. A fun dance group for ages 5-9. The Minis attend several competitions during the year, perform in cabarets, and at our annual Recital.
Dance Unlimited Repertory Company is a pre-professional level dance program which operates in affiliation with Dance Unlimited. Auditions are open to all intermediate/advanced dancers and an apprentice program is available for beginning and younger students. Ages 7-18.
ACCELERATED PROGRAM (Ages 7-18) - designed to provide pre-professional training for the serious student studying several days a week. Classes are geared to both professional bound students, as well as students seeking the structure and discipline of a professional curriculum. Jazz/Tap 2A and 3/4A students must also be enrolled in the Jr Ballet Program or have instructor approval.
Accelerated Program for ages 7-13
JR BALLET IA, 2A, 3/4 - class is geared to the motivated young dancer. General age range is 6 - 13. Promotion to next level by practical and written examination.
JAZZ/TAP 2A - advanced beginner tap/jazz class for the serious younger dancer. Must also be enrolled in Jr Ballet.
JAZZ/TAP 3/4A - intermediate/advanced level tap/jazz.
YOUTH LYRICAL/MODERN - prior ballet training helpful, but not required for Level 1. Promotion to Level 2 requires solid classical ballet technique. Level 3/4 for the advanced dancer.
JR TECHNIQUE - class will focus on developing ballet and jazz technique, as well as balance, control, flexibility, and strength. Best suited for ages 10 and up. Students should be working at the Jr. Ballet 2A Level or above; however, younger students will be accepted as space permits.
GYMNASTICS FOR DANCERS - (2 classes ; level 1 and 2 - minimum 4th grade) for the intermediate/advanced dancers. Class will improve strength, flexibility and stamina, resulting in a more powerful and enhanced dance performance.
TEEN DANCE PROGRAM
JAZZ - fast paced and high energy; class progresses through warm¬ up, floor crossings, and mini-combinations. Level 1/2 (adv beginner, low inter), Level 2/3 (high intermediate) & Level 3/4 (high inter/advanced) require a strong technical background.
TAP - covers time steps, progressive foot work, varied rhythms, and innovative routines. A mix of classical and rhythm tap. Levels 1, 2, 3/4.
BALLET- class will stress proper technique, alignment, and terminology. Level 1 class is suitable for both Pre-Teens & Teens. Levels 1, 2, 3, 4.
POINTE - Must be enrolled in a minimum of one other ballet class and recommended by instructor. Beg & Inter/Advanced .
LYRICAL/MODERN - class will include lyrical jazz style and modern dance techniques. Level 1 class is suitable for both Pre-Teens & Teens, Level 2/3 (intermediate), Level 3/4 (high intermediate/advanced).
HIP HOP - a fast paced and high energy jazz class for the MTV dance style crowd.
ADVANCED TECHNIQUE - class will focus on ballet/jazz barre technique and develop center floor balance, control, flexibility, and strength. Includes once a month aerobic class first class of month, along with weight training. A great technique & endurance builder.
ADULT DANCE PROGRAM
TAP - a mix of Broadway and rhythm tap for the adult tapper. Appropriate for Adv Beg/intermediate student. .
BALLET - class will focus on traditional barre, center work, and short combinations. Class will be geared to beginning students as well as those adults returning to dance.
ACTING PROGRAM
Curriculum includes focus techniques and exercises in bringing a character to theatrical life from read-through to performance. The methods used and experiences gained are applicable not only to performance situations, but also invaluable tools to enhance self -esteem and self-awareness, increasing participants' confidence to their entire approach to life. Placement for all levels by instructor. Suggested grades below - subject to director approval.
